Viridicon is a South African Construction Group that was established in 2015. Viridicon consists of several divisions, each targeting a specific need in the construction sector of South Africa and abroad. The foundation of our business began in building contracting with both founding directors studying and practicing construction since they left school.

The business comprises of various divisions each catering for a specific need in the execution stage of a building project. From the physical construction requirements that clients may require, to professional construction project consulting, energy efficiency and the future of construction technology, Viridicon is the Construction company that clients choose when looking for professionalism and efficiency on their building project.

Chief Executive Officer

Byron Fergusson

Byron began his career with Murray & Roberts Building whereby he acquired a bursary to study BSc Construction Management with honours through the University of Pretoria. From starting his career as a student and visiting sites as a junior foreman, through to managing a large shopping center developments 6 years later, Byron gained ample experience in constructing and delivering high end developments.

Byron then left the company and formed Viridicon in 2015. Byron’s experience in large developments coupled with his Entrepreneurial mindset has positioned him perfectly to lead Viridicon as its managing director in both the consulting business as well as the contracting business.

Dirk Kotze

Dirk co-founded Viridicon at the end of 2015. Having owned his own small to medium contracting company specializing in everything from new build developments through to shop fit outs, Dirk brings many years of experience in construction. Dirk heads up the operational side of the businesses which includes resource management, subcontractor management and site management.

Projects: Banking sector including new
build, refurbishments and maintaining look and feel of existing branches

Head of projects with overall responsibility for KZN, Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Responsible for 10 direct reports (3 Project managers, 1 Costing and Admin Assistant and 6 Maintenance Assistants). Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Overall responsibility for all projects (refurb and new build), as well as maintenance activities in designated areas.
  • Completion of projects within timeline, cost and quality
  • Ensuring look and feel for all branches and offsite ATM’s are up to standard following hand-over to Operations.

Provision of project management and facilities management services to Standard Chartered Bank for Sub-Saharan Africa (Angola, Botswana, Mauritius, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe). Various projects ranging from branch refurbishment, office fit-out, re-stack projects, churn moves, as well as relocation of staff between buildings. I also participated in various Facilities Management functions as well as Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives.

Mace Management Services
Year: Jul 2013-May 2014.
Position: Project Manager – Project Rubicon, Standard Chartered Bank, Sandton, Johannesburg
Provided Project Management services to Standard Chartered Bank for the strip out and fit out of two floors (+- 800m2 per floor). These floors were partly occupied while construction was taking place. The project was planned over 6 phases with construction commencing on the 15th of June and completion of all phases scheduled for the 13th of September 2013. The works comprised the construction of a new patch room, installation of new electrical fittings, new air conditioning layout and reorientation of the existing furniture. Additional rooms were created and employees relocated. Additionally, a vault was constructed on the basement level which pushed the completion date out to the end of May 2014.

Hatch Africa(Kolomela Housing Project, Postmasburg)

Year: 2011- 2012
Position: Construction Site Superintendent

Kumba Iron Ore Limited (“Kumba”) established housing for the Kolomela Mine operations staff in Postmasburg. The development was situated in areas within the surrounds of Postmasburg, namely Postdene, Airfield and Boichoko. The development entails the establishment of the complete and services for a total of some 719 future houses in these areas. The initial phase consisted of 421 houses, phase 2 consisted of 298 houses. Roads and services tied into the existing Postmasburg municipal systems, outside the boundaries of the housing development.

Scope of Work  

  • Overall responsibility for completion of 115 houses ranging from 60m2 – 220m2 on the Boichoko site.
  • Ensure compliance to safety, quality, and schedule. Overall responsibility for managing all personnel and construction activities, in compliance with site policies and procedures.
  • Directed, and managed the team on my site, providing mentoring and clear leadership to ensure the construction team worked to prescribed project procedures, standards, and requirements.
  • All construction activities within the Boichoko site were planned, coordinated and prioritized to make best use of the available resources.
  • Conducted jobsite coordination meetings, attended weekly progress meetings with the contractors, and provided guidance, assistance and advice to the contractors on all construction matters
