About Us

Viridicon is a company with foundations in contracting in the built environment. The directors and founders both have honors degrees in Construction Management and Quantity Surveying. This balance allows them to drive the company in a direction that is streamlined and efficient with regard to the physical building of our projects, while also being cost controlled to allow maximum bottom line results. 

Our business comprises of Viridicon Consulting and Viridicon Construction. Please see the relevant links for information on each division. 

The need for energy efficiency during construction of an asset as well as its lifetime there after is becoming more and more important in the development industry. Our aim is to provide our clients with a better understanding of Green building in general should they choose follow this route.

  • All aluminum shop front installation on site. Included programming, monitoring installation and attending to quality. (Contract value +/- R9 million)
  • Managed the works of 10 units from brickwork to final completion. Included the management of subcontractors, program, quality and labour in each unit. (Contract value +/- R15million)

Wonderpark Shopping Centre refurbishment and new build

Year: 2013
Position: Construction Management Intern for Murray & Roberts Buildings
Total value: +/- R370 Million

Scope of works:

  • Manage all works from demolitions of existing building, concrete structure, and finishing of mall areas, shops and restaurants in Phase1 (17000m 2). Total contract value R358 million
  • Shops completed with full fit out– Truworths
  • Management of subcontractors, program, quality and labour for Phase 1
  • Handover of areas to tenant for Beneficial Occupation for Phase 1 (Cell C, Typo, Aldos, @Home, Hi, Legit, Side Step, Arthur Kaplin, John Craig, Sonatina, Forever New)
  • Management of final snags and ensuring opening as per agreed date to client of Phase 1

Dainfern Square Shopping Centre 

Year: 2013 – 2015
Position: Sub Agent for Murray & Roberts Buildings
Total value: +/- R347 Million

Scope of Work

  • Management over foreman and their respective teams in the structural work of Zone 1 and 3. Bases, Columns, Surface beds and Slabs
  • Spaces completed with full fit out – Virgin Active
  • Shops completed with partial fitout – Woolworths, PNA
  • Management over respective subcontractors works
  • Handover of areas to tenant for Beneficial Occupation for all shops in Zone E and D (Famous Bands, Pizza Hut, Anat, Exclusive Books, Sothebys, Lush, The Body Shop, Frankie & Delilah, Sorbet, Vida E, IM Optical, The Tea Shop, Base Cut, Dischem, MTN, Rugs Original)
  • Management of all services installation and design coordination of works.

Dirk Kotze

Dirk joined Virdicon to the end of 2015. Having owned his own small to medium contracting company specializing in everything from new build developments through to shop fit outs, Dirk brings many years of experience in construction. Along with Byron, Dirk heads up the construction division of the business as the Operations Manager. Dirk works on all our tenders, resource placement, subcontractor management and site management.
